Neeraj Chopra Biography in Odia: Neeraj Chopra was born on 24 December 1997 in Haryana, India. His father Satish Kumar is a farmer and his mother Saroj Devi is a homemaker. As a 13-year-old boy, he was obese and his family enrolled him in a gym in Panipat. He used to run to lose weight but did not enjoy the hit. He became interested in the javelin after seeing Jaiveer, a professional javelin thrower, Binjol. He started training with Jaiveer. Later when he was 14, he shifted to a sports nursery in Panchkula and trained with national level athletes. In 2012, he won his first junior national gold in Lucknow.
Career
In 2016, 19-year-old Neeraj set a junior world record throw of 86.48 meters at the World Under-20 Championships, Poland. In 2017, he claimed the title at the Asian Championship, Bhubaneswar. In the same year, he came 7th in the IAAF Diamond League. The following year, he claimed the silver medal at the Offenburg Spearwurf meeting, Germany. He also won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Australia.

The Haryana thrower won 3 more gold medals that year at Sotteville Athletics Meet, France, Savo Games, Finland and Asian Games, Jakarta. In 2020, Neeraj finished third at the Korten Games in Finland. This achievement qualified him for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj reached the final of the Tokyo Olympic event.
In the final round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 event, Neeraj Chopra leads the board with a score of 87.03 in the first attempt, 87.58 in the second attempt and 76.79 meters in the third attempt. And with this score, he won the first gold medal of Tokyo Olympics 2020 for India. Neeraj became the first athlete to represent India in 100 years, winning an Olympic medal in track and field in the javelin throw event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
